Welcome To The You Greedy Bastards Podcast
Welcome to the You Greedy Bastards Podcast, a thought-provoking podcast dedicated to raising awareness about the alarming homeless crisis in America. Join us as we delve into the untold stories of individuals who have experienced homelessness firsthand, giving them a platform to share their struggles, triumphs, and journeys towards stability. We also explore the perspectives of apartment owners, shedding light on the challenges they face and their role in addressing homelessness. As an extension of our podcast, we are proud to introduce our non-profit organization, Project PRC, which aims to provide practical solutions and support to combat homelessness in our community. Together, let's challenge the status quo and work towards a society where everyone has a place to call home.
The Rise In Rent Prices
Rent prices are rising faster than wages, which means that many people are spending a larger portion of their income on rent.
The rise in rent prices has disproportionately affected low-income households, who may struggle to afford the increased cost of housing.
Some cities have been hit harder than others by the rise in rent prices. For example, San Francisco, New York, and Boston have seen some of the largest increases in rent prices in recent years.
The rise in rent prices has led to increased demand for affordable housing solutions, such as rent control and the construction of affordable housing units.
According to a report from Apartment List, national rent prices increased by 11.5% between January 2021 and January 2022, which is the largest annual increase in the past decade.

While there may be legitimate reasons why property owners raise rent prices, there are also negative reasons that can have a negative impact on tenants.
Greed
Some property owners may raise rent prices simply to maximize their profits, even if it's not necessary to cover their expenses. This can be especially harmful to tenants who are already struggling to afford their housing costs.
Lack Of Competition
If there are few options for affordable housing in a particular area, property owners may raise rent prices knowing that tenants have limited choices. This can create a situation where tenants are forced to pay more than they can afford, or accept substandard living conditions.

Gentrification
In some cases, property owners may raise rent prices in order to attract higher-income tenants and push out existing low-income tenants. This can contribute to gentrification, which can displace long-term residents and negatively impact the social fabric of a neighborhood.
Negligence
Some property owners may neglect necessary maintenance and repairs in order to keep their costs low, while still raising rent prices. This can create unsafe or unsanitary living conditions for tenants.
